Question

What should I do so I can safely remove a module from a FTB or LTB unit?

Answer

The safest option is always to turn off the unit before unseating the module from a slot in a platform (LTB/FTB unit).

Older FTB modules would need to turn off the platform before removing them from the platform.

However, more recent FTBx modules are considered ''hotswappable'', which means you can remove them safely even if the platform is still turned on. We recommend to turn off the related software before removing its module however. This means turning off the OTDR/iOLM application for example before removing an OTDR module, the same goes for OSA, OLTS and any other respective module.

To know if your module is an FTBx, inspect the product number (P/N) of the module on the white sticker on its side or on the back of the unit. If the module has a white sticker on the back of the platform, it is likely not a FTBx, but the P/N will always have an x as its 4th character if it is an FTBx.
