All OTDR and iOLM products

What can I do if I frequently receive a message similar to the one below when using my OTDR or iOLM instrument?

"Injection level is low or reflectance is high at the unit's port."

Possible Cause 1. For both iOLM and OTDR Application.

This most often occurs when the optical port connector is dirty or damaged. A troubleshooting guide can be found here.

If after following the steps in the troubleshooting guide, you are unsuccessful, then your instrument should be sent for a Connector Replacement and Calibration service.

Possible Cause 2. For OTDR Application.

Receiving message "Injection level is low or reflectance is high at the unit's port."

Proposed Solution.

The OTDR application is being set to look for the first connector.

As a consequence if no launch or receive fibers are defined and the setting for "First Connector Check" is enable the application will give the message "Injection level is low or reflectance is high at the unit's port."

Select the ... to access "Extended Acquisition Parameters"

Under "Advanced Parameters" ensure "First Connector Check" is not selected.

Once unselected, Press OK and Start a OTDR Acquisitions.
