Problem
The EXFO wireless FIP Inspection scope is powered by a Li-ion polymer rechargeable battery. If you find that your battery is not charging or that the battery autonomy has degraded significantly, please refer to the following troubleshooting steps.
Troubleshooting steps
Possible Cause 1: Scope is not receiving a charge.
Proposed Solution:
- Validate the scope charging state by checking the battery LED status indicator.
If you confirm that the device is not in a charging state:
- Inspect the charging port on the scope for any physical damage.
- Ensure you are connected to an active and appropriate USB charging port.
- Try a different micro-USB charging cable, replace if necessary.
Possible Cause 2: Internal high temperature (battery LED is flashing yellow).
Proposed Solution:
- The internal overtemperature protection will prevent charging. In this case you will need to allow the device to cool, before charging.
Possible Cause 3: Battery is faulty or beyond its useful life expectancy.
Proposed Solution:
- The Li-Ion polymer battery used in this device, will typically last between 300-500 charge cycles during normal use. The life expectancy will vary considerably depending on the environment (temperature and humidity) and type of use. Extended periods of storage and inactivity will also negatively impact the life expectancy.
- If necessary, replace the battery with an identical part from EXFO, by removing the two screws on the battery compartment located on the side of the scope; remove the battery door, along with the battery and connecting wires; replace the battery with a new one and close the battery compartment
- Replacement batteries, chargers, and USB charging cables are available as accessories from EXFO
